There are certain rules laid down for us by Ofcom within which we have to work. For example, we take a certain amount of responsibility for children watching before 9:00pm and schedule programmes accordingly - after 9:00pm this responsibility is passed to the parents or guardians.

Please note that Five does not make any programmes and therefore we do not have any studios, so do not recruit actors, technical or make up staff.

The Wright Stuff is transmitted on Five from 09:15 every weekday. It is then repeated at 11:00 on weekdays on our digital channel FIVER.

Where can I find the viewing figures for Five Programmes?
We cannot give you any audience figures as to do so would contravene the terms of our subscription to BARB (Broadcasters' Audience Research Board). Some basic information is available to the public on BARB's website, the address of which is as follows: www.barb.co.uk

TV Licence?
Five is a free commercial terrestrial TV channel. Like ITV and Channel 4, we obtain all of our revenue from advertising, and do not receive any money from the TV licence system, all of which goes to the BBC.

How do I find out which programmes are subtitled?
We supply the magazines, newspapers and online services with a list of the programmes we intend to subtitle. The letter T for text or S for subtitled are normally used to indicate that a programme is subtitled. This information is also available in Electronig Programme Guides (EPGs) that all digital TV services offer.

How to get subtitles
You must have a television which is capable of receiving teletext. To view select Text and then page 888. If you have cable or digital television or a set top box follow the instructions provided.

Recording subtitles
Unfortunately, only a minority of video recorders are capable of recording subtitles so before buying one make sure it is one of those that does.

Problems with subtitles
Occasionally we are not able to subtitle the programmes we had hoped to. This can be due to technical problems or the unexpectedly late delivery of a programme. We do understand how frustrating this is and we always try to fix the problem as quickly as possible. Most problems with subtitles are caused by poor reception. Subtitles are affected before the pictures and one channel may be affected when others are not. If the defective channel is on the highest frequency, then early deterioration in the aerial installation (including aerial amplifiers) usually causes that channel to suffer before the others. Also reflections from, say, a new building can selectively cause reduced effective field strength at the aerial on any frequency - just a matter of chance. Always check the cables and adjust your aerial.

If one aerial serves more than one television, you may need to get a reputable aerial supplier to check your installation.

Cable
If you are not receiving subtitles, then your decoder box may not be set up correctly, or it may be faulty. If you are sure that you have followed all the instructions supplied with the cable decoder box, then you should contact your local cable operator.

Can I switch off the signer?
We are afraid that open signing can't be switched off on digital terrestrial television. We are complying with a compulsory requirement of the Broadcasting Act and Ofcom to meet a specified quota of signed programmes.

In the future it is hoped to transmit the signing separately, also known as closed signing, but the equipment and technology are not available at the moment.

How can I find out which programmes are signed?

Will you be screening Series 7?
Series 7 concluded in May last year on Five USA. We do have the rights to repeat the final episode but no broadcast dates are scheduled at the moment.

We also have the rights to repeat the entire series on our main channel but have no plans to do so at this time.

How far in advance can I get schedule information?
Due to an industry-wide scheduling embargo, we are unable to provide scheduling information more than two weeks in advance. Available schedule details can be found at www.five.tv/tvguide

If the information you require can not be found within our FAQs or the TV guide, then we do not have the information either.

Why do you make schedule changes?
Whilst we do make every effort to adhere to our published schedules, if we incur a legal problem, a live broadcast overruns or, a major news story breaks, there will be last minute changes. While we understand that this is frustrating, such flexibility is a necessity if the Channel is to remain a pro-active force.

Is it possible to obtain signed photographs?
As we do not make any programmes ourselves, we have no photographs to send you. However, in some cases these can be obtained from the production company responsible for a programme. Customer Services can provide further information: www.five.tv/aboutfive/customer-services/general-enquiries

VideoPlus is a way to make setting your recorder easier, by entering a special code number often printed in listings magazines. PDC is a way of changing the start time of a recording if the programme is delayed.

What time will you be screening Neighbours?

The programme began on Five on Monday 11th February, 2008 at 13.45, with Episode 5331 and continued from where the BBC left off. We repeat the lunchtime episode at 17.30 on Five and 19.00 on FIVER, there are now further opportunities to watch the previous day's episode on week day mornings at 05.10 on Five and 10.00 on FIVER. We are also screening a Neighbours Omnibus and this is transmitted on Saturday on FIVER, normally at 14:15. You can also watch the programme on Demand Five at www.five.tv/demandfive

Will you be screening Series 6?

This series started on Wednesday 13th January at 21:00.

We have recently started repeating each episode on Tuesday nights at midnight. Episodes are also available on our catch-up service Demand Five for a limited time following broadcast.
